Challenger COVID-19 Updates:

Thurs-Aug 6, 2020:  As virtual summer camps come to a close next week, Challenger is looking ahead to Fall 2020.  We have been busy preparing a entire suite of virtual products for our schools, groups, scouts and more!  We plan to run virtual programs for in-school and at-home settings.  Registration begins Aug 17 and dates are available starting Aug 24.  Click here to find out more details.

Wed-June 3, 2020:
After much thoughtful consideration, the Challenger Team has decided to cancel all in person summer camp programs for 2020 because of the current COVID situation. We have based this decision on the nature of our in-person camps, the safety of participants & staff, and the quality of programming we wish to provide. We hope to reopen in-person programming at the start of Fall for the public and schools.

If you had previously registered for in-person summer camp, we have sent emails to you on June3, 2020. We appreciate your original summer camp 2020 registration and we hope to offer these camps in 2021. Today we have officially cancelled these in-person camps and issued you a full refund to your credit cards. You will see the refund show up on your CC statement in 5-10 days.

Good News!!! We will be offering a Virtual Summer Camp 2020. There are 4 different camps for students entering grades K-8! We would LOVE to have your camper in our virtual camps. We thank you for your patience and understanding with Challenger during this unique time. We are a small non-profit that hopes to continue our mission of promoting STEM for Maine students. Your continued support is very meaningful, especially now.

Thank  you, the Challenger Team

Mon-April 27, 2020:

Dear Challenger Mission Teachers & Leaders,

Challenger Learning Center of Maine remains temporarily closed to the public.

Since neither our center no your school/group knows when we will all reopen, we now are marking all programs March 13-June 30 as cancelled.  Schools/groups do not need to cancel individually, and, as this is a closure, the policies regarding 30-day cancellation window and the $50 non-refundable portion of a booking will NOT be in effect.

As soon as we have a re-open date, we will contact all groups who had a reservation during the closure to re-schedule, if possible.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Education Director, Jennifer Therrien- [email protected].

Dear Challenger Camp families,

Challenger Summer Camp 2020 is still being assessed.  A final decision regarding Summer Camp will happen on June 1, 2020.

Thank you.

Wed-March 18, 2020 at 12:30 PM:

Dear Challenger Mission Teachers & Leaders,

As mentioned in earlier communications, the Challenger Learning Center of Maine is temporarily closed to the public.

You have been emailed personally if you have one or more missions/programs scheduled for a date between March 13 and June 12, 2020. Since neither our center nor your your school knows when we will all reopen, we plan to provide a weekly update on our programming status.  At this time we are marking all programs March 13 – April 24 as postponed or tentative.  For the moment, we have not changed the status of programs scheduled for April 27 – June 12. We will continue to revise dates, as needed.

As soon as we have a re-open date, we will contact all schools & groups who had a reservation during the closure to re-schedule, if possible.

Thank you for your continued confidence in the Challenger Learning Center of Maine and our dedication to providing safe, engaging, and impactful programs for all. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email at [email protected].

Best Regards,
Jen Therrien, Education Director and Center Coordinator

Sun-March 15, 2020 at 5:00 PM:

In support of efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19, the Challenger Learning Center of Maine is currently closed to visitors. All immediate public programs and k-12 field trips have been cancelled.
Our Challenger management staff still will be available by phone/email. We will use this time to prepare STEM-tastic future programming for students, resources for teachers and more.
We look forward to welcoming our visitors back to our programs as soon as possible. Please check our website [www.astronaut.org] regularly for updates on our normal operations status.
If you have any questions or concerns,
please email [email protected] or call 207-990-2900.
Also, please consider supporting Challenger, a small non-profit 501(c)3, through this time of lost school visits and public programs. A donation to the Challenger Learning Center of Maine would help us through this time so we may continue to provide future programming for students of Maine. Donations can be made through our website, https://www.astronaut.org/join/donors/donations/
Thank you for your support and we can’t wait to continue to look to the stars and inspire STEM careers for Maine’s students.
Best, Kirsten Hibbard and the Challenger Team
