Blast-Off Rocket

This IS Rocket Science!
Interference fitting, laminar boundary layers, the rocket-pendulum fallacy, and Bernoulli’s Principle: the young engineers who participate in Challenger’s Blast-Off Rocket Program can tackle it all.
While they may not be learning these laws by name and making calculations, children in grades 2-8 push the boundaries of their engineering skills with these pneumatically launched paper rockets.
Activity Type: In-person at Challenger Maine or at your location
Activity Goal: Students will construct and launch paper rockets to take home, using simple materials and hand-powered launchers.
Target Audience: 2nd through 8th grade
Crew Size: Up to 25 students
Program Length: 1-1.5 hours
Price: $300 @ Challenger Maine or $350* travel to your location
Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to use small muscle groups and fine motor skills to cut, hold, and tape the pieces of the rocket together.
Students will be able to articulate their needs if they need help.
Educator Notes:
Dexterity: These paper rockets are constructed from small pieces of paper, and require the ability to use tape and scissors.
Accessibility: Our center is fully accessible to wheelchairs. Other accommodations should be mentioned when booking your mission. We want to work with you to create the most inclusive experience!
