Meet an Astronaut!

Save the date! Challenger Learning Center of Maine and the Cole Land Transportation Museum are teaming up for a special homeschool experience on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Join the Challenger Learning Center of Maine and the Cole Land Transportation Museum for a special homeschool event featuring William “Bill” Readdy, a former NASA astronaut, U.S. Navy veteran, test pilot, and veteran of three Space Shuttle missions.

This month’s homeschool event is a little different from the others in our fall series. Rather than a morning filled with STEM activities, Veterans of STEM gives homeschool students and families the chance to hear directly from someone who has experienced spaceflight firsthand.

Bill Readdy flew on three Space Shuttle missions: STS-42, STS-51, and STS-79, spending more than 672 hours in space. He also served in a variety of NASA leadership and flight roles during his career.

This is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with an astronaut, hear stories from his career, and maybe even ask a question or two. Come ready to be curious!

And there’s plenty more to explore. Following the program, participants will have the opportunity to take in the sights of the Cole Land Transportation Museum, home to an extensive collection of vehicles, equipment, and exhibits celebrating Maine’s transportation and military history.

Please note: Unlike the other events in our fall homeschool series with the Cole Land Transportation Museum, this entire event will take place at the Cole Museum. There will be no separate stop at the Challenger Learning Center of Maine.

Come meet an astronaut, ask some questions, and spend some time exploring one of Bangor’s unique museums!

Check back soon for more information, and save the date for this special homeschool opportunity!
